Siyeza African Safaris
Hello from England We seem to have brought the sun back with us as weather
here has greatly improved since our return. Settling back into routine
and work is difficult though. The trip was wonderful, exactly what we wanted and no
minuses from us. It was hard at times – sand, thorns everywhere,
often no facilities (even when we had water an elephant ripped up the
pipes) and occasionally problems with bookings but as Bretton said
“this is Africa” and we really experienced it. The land rover was great, only had to dig it out once, and
the tent was comfortable, easy to erect / pack and seemed nice and
solid with prowlers in the camp. Food was nice, soon got to like
coffee and rusks first thing. The choice of camp sites was really
good, the stars, overlooking rivers, surrounded at times by elephants,
hippos and lions. Plenty of noise to keep us awake, even scary at
times for early morning trips to the nearest loo (bush). Remember
standing by the barbecue at Chobe with Bretton when a hippo popped his
head out of the water at our feet. The guiding was great, very informative and helpful while
also affording us some privacy. We were always able to stop for photos
or a bit of exploration and Bretton was very good at spotting,
identifying, giving information on wildlife. He coped very well with
the accommodation problems, especially in the Etosha where we ended up
sharing a site. We saw so many animals; highlights were a massive impala
fight, a ratel digging something out of a hole in daylight, stroppy
elephants very close plus lion, cheetah and wild cat. To finish off at the Victoria Falls, both sides were a
wonderful end to a great holiday. Oh I almost forgot to mention! But on the second day in
Etosha on the road to our new camp we met a leopard by the side of the
road. We distracted her a bit so a steenbok in a nearby bush made a
run for it and she went to investigate. The bushes were in a sunny
clearing and for over 20 minutes (I have 15 minutes recorded on DVD)
she wandered around, sat looking in all directions before finally
moving into the bush where she disappeared. During this time two cars
passed but didn’t see her so we had her all to ourselves. I think I would sum up the trip by saying that it went
exactly as planned and made a dream come true which we will never
forget. Thanks to you Mark and Bretton for making it all possible. Highly recommended but not for the faint hearted! Best wishes Marilyn & Andy Siyeza Safaris is the tailor - made safari division
