DESCRIPTION:

Nestled away on the south-eastern edge of the Kalahari is !Khamab Kalahari Reserve, the largest, private, Big-5 reserve in South Africa.

!Khamab is a malaria-free area and is safe to visit all year round. The size of the reserve and vast wilderness areas devoid of roads makes !Khamab ideally suited for discerning travellers that want something more than just the “normal” game viewing experience and who wish to experience the wonderful diversity that the Kalahari has to offer. We recommend staying for at least four nights to make most of the iKhamab experience.

!Khamab accommodates only eight sharing guests at the lodge, a visit to !Khamab is a truly intimate and private wilderness experience. Guests have the privilege of having the entire reserve to themselves, adding to the feeling of remoteness that the Kalahari brings. This makes !Khamab an ideal destination for any occasion, from small get-togethers to exclusive honeymoons.

The lodge is fenced for peace of mind and overlooks a busy waterhole, making for an uninterrupted connection to wildlife.  Accommodation is provided in two luxury two-bedroom chalets with all rooms en-suite, and a comfortable lounge area with coffee station and drinks fridge. The rooms can be set up with either a king-sized bed or two twin beds. All bedrooms are air-conditioned for comfort during the hot summers, while the lounge has a fireplace to warm up the cold winter nights.

Guest activities are tailored around the preferences of each group, but we encourage as much time out on the reserve as possible. Lunch is often served in the shade of a camelthorn tree, while a wonderful fireside dinner under the stars creates a backdrop that not even the best restaurants can match.

The Kalahari Desert

The Kalahari Desert is regarded as one of few remaining wilderness areas in Africa! The largest undisturbed, arid sandy savannah in Africa, covering almost 930 000 square kilometres of Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa, it forms part of the 1.5 million square kilometre Kalahari Basin, which includes the Okavango Delta and Makgadikgadi Pans.

The word “Kalahari” evokes visions of sand, wilderness and mystique. Few places in the world paint such a vivid picture in the minds of most, just by the mere mention of its name. Derived from the Tswana word Kgala, which means “the great thirst”, the Kalahari Desert is punctuated by big skies, uninterrupted stars, red sands, golden winter grass, spectacular summer thunderstorms and a wonderful diversity of wildlife. This stirs feelings of wonder and discovery in those lucky enough to visit.
