Nestled in a remote, untouched corner of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve—bordering 11,000 hectares of pristine Kruger National Park wilderness—this exclusive walking safari camp redefines luxury in the most authentic and immersive way possible.
Designed for those who wish to unplug and fully embrace the natural world, the camp accommodates just eight guests in four comfortable Meru-style tents. Each tent is en-suite and features a private outdoor bucket shower, filled with warm water on request. There’s no electricity, Wi-Fi, or mobile signal—just raw, untamed African bush and the captivating rhythm of the wild.
Every day at Simbavati Trails Camp begins with a gentle, guided bush walk of approximately three hours. Led by an armed specialist guide and a tracker, you’ll learn to interpret animal tracks, listen to the calls of birds and mammals, and feel the pulse of nature underfoot. Morning walks conclude with refreshing snacks and drinks before returning to camp for a hearty brunch cooked over an open fire.
Afternoons are for relaxation—read a book outside your tent, enjoy a midday siesta, or simply listen to the sounds of the wilderness. Later, you’ll embark on a second guided walking safari, ending at a scenic viewpoint where sundowners are served as the African sky bursts into color. A short scenic drive returns you to camp, just in time for a fire-cooked dinner under a blanket of stars.
Please note:
Simbavati Trails Camp is open seasonally and closed from 1 November to 28 February due to weather conditions.
Children under 16 years old are not permitted, ensuring a peaceful and focused walking safari experience.

Each tent features a private outdoor bucket shower and eco-friendly amenities, enhancing the authentic bushveld atmosphere without compromising on essential comforts.
With no electricity or cellphone signal, the camp encourages guests to unplug and embrace a slower pace, allowing for full immersion in the untamed landscape. All meals are cooked over an open fire and enjoyed al fresco, fostering a sense of community and connection.

Simbavati Trails Camp is the perfect destination for safari enthusiasts seeking a raw and authentic wilderness experience. Sleeping in a canvas tent, surrounded by the calls of nocturnal wildlife and the distant roar of lions, amplifies your connection to nature in a way that no lodge can replicate. With no artificial light or urban distractions, guests enjoy a deep sense of calm and presence—ideal for those looking to escape the demands of modern life.
To make the most of your walking safari, pack comfortable walking shoes, a wide-brimmed hat, neutral-colored clothing, and a lightweight daypack. Mornings and evenings can be cool, so layering is recommended. Binoculars and a good field guide will also enhance your game viewing and birdwatching experiences.
The camp is fully off-grid, so there is no cellphone reception or Wi-Fi—an intentional choice to help you disconnect and fully immerse yourself in the rhythm of the bush. This digital detox is one of the most rewarding aspects of the Trails Camp experience.
Note that the daily guided bush walks cover a few kilometers at a gentle pace, making them suitable for guests with a reasonable level of fitness. As this is a walking-only camp, guests must be 16 years or older. Simbavati Trails Camp is open seasonally from March to October, as the summer months bring extreme heat and dense vegetation, making walking safaris less practical.
